Have you checked that your smoke alarm is working?

As the warmer weather slips away don't forget to check that your smoke alarm is in good working order. "ACT Fire & Rescue advises that all residential properties should be fitted with working smoke alarms. Smoke alarms must be checked on a regular basis. You should change your smoke alarm battery at least once a year, usually at the end of daylight saving." If you are interested in finding ways to keep your home safe pop over to ACT Emergency Services Agency.

The following list has been collated after researching a variety of government website's, choice.com.au and myhotwater.com.au.

By answering the questions below you will establish if you need a gas, electric, solar or heat pump unit, that will be suitable for your climate. You will determine if you need an instantaneous unit or if you have room for a storage tank. If you have room for a storage tank you will know what size tank will deliver the right amount of water for your household.

Home owners need to ask them selves the following questions:
What energy source will I use?
What is my climate?
Where in my house will my hot water service be located?
What is my household size?

1.) Energy Source:
The first question people ask when choosing an energy source is which is best for me Gas, Solar, Electric or heat Pump?
The answer depends on many factors including your climate, the location of the system and, if you have mains gas or electricity connected to your property.

2.) Climate:
Your climate will impact on the efficiency of the type of hot water heater you choose. If you live in a tropical location with excess sunlight solar would be for you but if you live in a location that experiences extreme frost and days with less sunshine a different system might be more reliable.

3.) Location:
The position of the hot water service can help to determine if you need an instantaneous or storage hot water service. It will also help when choosing the size and energy source. If you have limited space and need to generate your hot water inside an instantaneous Hot Water unit would be a wise choice. However, if you have plenty of space a storage unit would be ideal.

4.) Household Size:
How many people use your hot water system each day? Hot Water Services vary in size so it is important to consider how much hot water you use. Below is size storage tanks we would recommend according to household size:
0-1 people 25 - 80Lt
2-4 people 125 -160Lt
4-6 people 250 - 315Lt
